WETZEL ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR DECATUR CITY COUNCIL

William (Will) Wetzel has announced his candidacy for Decatur City Council. Wetzel is a native of Decatur, having graduated from Eisenhower High School in 2003 and Richland Community College in 2012. Wetzel currently works as an IT professional for Envision, LLC. He has married for 8 years to his wife, Tiffany, and they have a 5-year-old daughter Ava.

“After long reflection and encouragement from friends, family, and Decatur residents, I have decided to run for election to the Decatur City Council,” Wetzel said. “Decatur is at a critical juncture. If we do not act now on stabilizing our community, we will be sacrificing future growth and prosperity,” stated Wetzel. Wetzel plans to spend the fall and winter listening and speaking with Decaturities to hear their concerns and ideas for the future of Decatur.

Wetzel has listed his key campaign points on his Facebook page – www.facebook.com/willfordecatur. If elected, his five main priorities will be; 1. Working to build and implement a comprehensive citizen-led plan that addresses Decatur’s shrinking population and economy. 2. Reviewing every dollar raised and spent by the City Government to ensure that each dollar has the most significant impact on improving the quality of life for all citizens in Decatur. 3. Implementing a geographically representative city government by adopting an Aldermanic-Manager form of city governance. 4. Reversing the economically damaging decision to ban Cannabis-based businesses from the City of Decatur. 5. Auditing the procedures and policies of the Decatur Police Department to assure they comply with national standards and best practices for community policing.

Wetzel says, “Decatur’s only path forward is to ensure that the City Government is working for all citizens, not just for a wealthy and powerful few.”

The public is encouraged to reach out to Mr. Wetzel via his Facebook page or his email wetzelwj@gmail.com.
