MAC ON SPORTS: NO DECATUR SCHOOL DISTRICT ATHLETICS FOR 1ST QUARTER

J. Thomas McNamara

As a result of District 61’s decision to go to remote learning for the first quarter, there will not be any athletics for elementary, middle and high school students.
Joe Caputo, the district’s athletics coordinator, confirmed it Monday night in response to an inquiry from the Decatur Tribune.
“Decatur Public Schools 61 Elementary-Middle-High School sports are on pause until we are physically back in the classroom,” wrote Caputo.
“We are going with remote learning for Quarter 1 (Aug 17 – Oct 9). If our students are not physically in the classroom, we are not allowed to participate in extracurricular activities, including athletics.
“This means that our fall high school sports including boys and girls cross country, boys and girls golf and girls Tennis are on pause until Oct. 9,” concluded Caputo’s response.
I will have more on this in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
