MAC ON SPORTS: IHSA BOARD MEETS TUESDAY TO DECIDE SPRING SPORTS

Shortly before 3 this afternoon (Friday, April 17), the Illinois High School Association released this statement to the media.
At that meeting, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors is scheduled to meet via video conference on Tuesday, April 21.
“The Board will make a final determination on the IHSA’s spring sport state tournaments based on the Governor’s (J.B. Pritzker’s) announcement this afternoon (Friday, April 17) that Illinois high schools will not return to in-person learning this school year.
“As we previously indicated, the cessation of in-person learning will make it difficult for the IHSA to conduct spring state tournaments this year. More information will be provided following Tuesday’s Board meeting,” concluded the IHSA statement.
I will have more on this developing story, but I don’t see a way for the spring sports to be conducted when the students aren’t in school and the Governor on previous occasions has said he did not want any group of more than 10 to gather which there would be with spring sports.
