For the last two weeks Irish Stew has given his views on who he felt was the top team/school of the year honor, the top school of the decade covering all sports, and the top team of the decade when only one sport is considered. Now, it is time for the chef to pen his top 10 sports stories for 2019 from the schools he covers on a weekly basis which are Argenta-Oreana, Central A&M, Cerro Gordo/Bement, Decatur Christian, Decatur Eisenhower, Decatur LSA, Decatur MacArthur, Decatur St. Teresa, Maroa-Forsyth, Meridian, Mount Zion, Sangamon Valley and Warrensburg-Latham. Obviously, the top sports story for 2019 was Brad Dalton’s St. Teresa volleyball team capturing the Class 2A state volleyball championship, a year after they won third place in the Class 1A tournament.
Central A&M has the second and third top stories with their basketball Raiders capping a great season with their third place at the Class 1A tournament last March with their football teammates taking runnerup last Thanksgiving weekend in Class 1A football. Quite a year for Rob Smith’s basketball and Brent Weakly’s football Raiders.
Those were pretty easy, now comes the difficult parts deciding which ones should be four through 10.
