FEMALE INMATE DIES IN MACON COUNTY JAIL AFTER BEING FOUND UNRESPONSIVE

 

     On October 17th, 2019 at approximately 6:25pm, correctional officers with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office discovered an unresponsive female inmate in a housing area in the jail. Officers and on site medical professionals immediately began performing life saving efforts on the female, who was subsequently transported by Decatur Ambulance Service to St. Mary’s Hospital. Continued life saving measures were performed at St. Mary’s Hospital and proved to be unsuccessful. The female, a 21 year old Springfield woman, was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:10pm.

As with any in-custody death, investigators with the Illinois State Police were contacted and the investigation was turned over to them. Any additional comments regarding this case will come from their office.
