The 2006 state football champions and the 2007 state basketball teams are among the teams to be inducted a Hall of Fame dinner March 14, 2020 at Hickory Point Banquet Center.
At the time those teams won their state championships they were only the second school in Illinois High School Association history to win back-to-back state championships in the major sports in the same calendar school year. They were also the subject of a book “Dream Seasons,” co-authored by Scott Wentworth and this writer.
The 2007 state basketball championship team was the last in the two-class system as the four-class system began the in August 2007.
One player from both those teams is among the individuals selected and that’s Robert (Robo) Kreps.
Other individuals scheduled for enshrinement at the March 14 program are:
–Dick Irvin- Class of 1942- Educator 1960-1986; Lonny McClung- Class of 1957; Ken Chalcraft- Class of 1957; Doug Faulkner- Class of 1972; Kevin Koslofski- Class of 1984; Amber Patton- Class of 2005; Florence Berry- Educator;
–Walter Boyd and Family- Educator and Community Supporters; Fred Thompson- Educator
–1956-57 Boys Basketball Sweet 16 team when there was one class.
On a personal basis I commend the Maroa-Forsyth Hall of Fame selection committee on a job well-done.
Information for the ceremony will be forthcoming on the district website as well as its social media accounts.
I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
