Support natural areas and wildlife by riding your bicycle in Prairie Pedal! The Macon County Conservation Foundation will hold this annual bicycling fundraiser event on Sunday, September 29 at Rock Springs Conservation Area. This fundraiser supports natural areas and wildlife in Macon County, Illinois. Healthy natural areas are vital to our community. They help ensure we have clean air and water, space set aside for wildlife, and they are part of our community’s way of life: offering opportunities for hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and many other forms of outdoor recreation. Bicycle riders may choose from a 20, 40, and 62 mile route along scenic country roads.
Register on or before September 12 for a discounted rate of $25/rider. Register any time after that, up to and including the day of the event, for $30/rider. Ride registration includes a Prairie Pedal t-shirt, well stocked rest stops, support vehicles to assist riders, and a delicious chili lunch afterwards. Riders for the 40 and 62 mile routes may begin between 7am and 9am. Riders on the 20 mile route may begin between 7am and 10am.
All routes begin and end at Rock Springs Conservation Area. For information on how to register to ride, visit MaconCountyConservationFoundation.org. You don’t have to be a cyclist to support Prairie Pedal. You may also sponsor the event or donate online at MaconCountyConservationFoundation.org. Rock Springs Conservation Area is located on the southwestern edge of Decatur.
To get to Rock Springs from Decatur, go south on Route 48 and turn west onto Rock Springs Road or go south on Wyckles Road and turn east onto Rock Springs Road. Watch for signs. Plenty of parking is available.
