Mac On Sports: Halas, Payton to Get Statues

J. Thomas McNamara

Two  legendary Bears and professional football Hall of Famers, Walter Payton and George Halas, are being set in bronze between now and Sept. 3.
The Bears announced Wednesday (today, Aug. 7th) that they will unveil statues of Payton, the team’s all-time leading rusher, and Halas, the franchise founder and long-time coach, two days before they host the Packers in the NFL opener to kick off their 100th season. The 12-foot, 3,000-pound statues, sculpted by Fisher Sculpture and designed Populous, will be located outside Gate 0
I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
