On Friday August 2, 2019, the Meridian School Board named Andy Pygott as the District Superintendent for the 2019-2020 school year. Pygott has been the Middle School Principal at Meridian for the previous 14 years. He has a total of 20 years in education with a Masters in School Administration from the University of Illinois- Springfield and a Specialist in Education degree from Eastern Illinois University.
During his administrative career, he has served as a Region Director for the Illinois Principals Association and was recognized for outstanding educational leadership by the Association in 2012. Before serving as principal, he was a teacher and coach in both the Decatur Public School District and the Mt. Zion School District. He will begin the role as the Superintendent of the Meridian CUSD #15 District on August 5.
Pygott stated “that he is grateful for the opportunity to serve the Meridian School District as the Superintendent and appreciates the support and confidence that he has received from the school board”.
Meridian Board of Education President Chris Jones offered the following statement: “We are pleased and excited to welcome Mr. Andy Pygott into the role of Superintendent for the 2019-2020 school year. We are appreciative of Mr. Pygott’s understanding & willingness to step up into this role during a time of challenge. The Meridian Board of Education will fully support Mr. Pygott in his new role and has confidence that Mr. Pygott will lead the Meridian School District forward in a manner that positively reflects upon on the Meridian School District, including its administrators, faculty, staff, and students.”.
