MacArthur’s lady Generals could make school history next week as the school has never won a sectional championship.
Michael Williams’ MacArthur Generals plays Bethalto Civic Memorial Monday night in the first round of the Taylorville sectional after defeating Paris, 69-38, Thursday night for the Mount Zion regional championship.
It was MacArthur’s first girls title since their 2009-10 team won it following the crown the school’s 2008-09 team captured.
Athletic Director Jason Crutcher provided the Decatur Tribune with these thoughts following the lady Generals victory.
Williams’ Generals placed three in double figures with Q Jackson leading the way with 25, Jayda Dees with 20 and Taya Davis with 14. Dees now is only nine points away from tying Eisenhower’s K.C. Hammond’s public school scoring record of 1,385 with her 1376. She needs 10 to break which could come Monday night against BCM in the Tornadoes sectional.
“The girls came out with great defense tonight (Thursday) and jumped on Paris. Started the game with a 9-0 lead. Leading scorer was Q. Jackson with 23 and I know she had more then 10 rebounds and probably four blocks. Jayda had 20 and Taya was in double digits and ran the team great tonight. The girls played together and wanted to win the regional title bad. They are such great student/athletes. So proud of these girls and our coaching staff,” concluded Crutcher.
Although the game is being played Monday night, the Decatur Tribune website will have reports from that game and any others they may have on their goal of reaching Redbird Arena on the Illinois State University campus for the girls Class 3A championships.
