Reaction To Bill Faber’s Column In Print Edition: Consolidation Would Offer No Benefit To Mount Zion

First of all I enjoy reading the Decatur Tribune. In my opinion Paul Osborne is obviously a very gifted and talented journalist.

My comment is in reference to statements made by Decatur City Councilman Bill Faber in his column titled “What will the City Manager do?” on January 30, 2019. In the column he suggests that “Consolidation would create a single unified body of government for Macon County. Decatur, Mt. Zion, and Forsyth would merge into one government operation.”

I have been involved with the local government in the Village of Mt. Zion for the past 6 yrs. No deficit budgets have been passed: a new water storage facility was constructed: street improvements have been made( and more have been scheduled for the future): also recognized as one of the top 20 safest communities in Illinois. I feel like I can speak for the majority (if not all) residents in Mt. Zion when I say we have no desire to merge into a “one government operation”.

In my opinion merging would offer no benefit to Mt. Zion (or Forsyth).
