Update On Policeman Being Shot During Traffic Stop

Update: At this point in the investigation, the Decatur Police Department can confirm that one Decatur Police Officer was shot during this incident. The officer was shot in his ballistic vest, which stopped the bullet. The Officer was released from the hospital late last night and is currently recovering from his injuries. Original Story: On Thursday, Jan. 31,, at approximately 8:38 PM, on duty Decatur Police Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1400 Block of N. Union. During the course of this stop, a struggle with the suspect ensued. During the struggle, preliminary information indicates at least one shot was fired by one of the officers.

As a result, both of the officers were treated and released at a local hospital for injuries suffered during the incident. The suspect was arrested and will be booked into the Macon County Jail.
