St. Teresa Advances to State, Braves Fall

By J. Thomas McNamara, Sports Editor

The St.Teresa Bulldogs will play Hartsburg-Emdem at 10:30 next Friday, Nov. 9, in the Class 1A volleyball championships in Redbird Arena on t he Illinois State University campus.

Brad Dalton’s Bulldogs defeated Jacksonville Routt in three sets tonight (Friday, Nov. 2nd), 25-13, 23-25 and 25-15, in the Nokomis supersectional.
It will be St. Teresa’s third trip to the volleyball championships after finishing fourth in back-to-back years of 2010 and 2011. The Bulldogs can’t finish any lower than fourth and will come home with a trophy.
While St. Teresa won, the Mount Zion Braves fell short in their bid once again for their first trip to the state finals as Belleville Althoff Catholic won in three sets, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-16.
It is the second straight season that Jay McAtee’s Braves fell to BAC.
I will have more on this developing story in a future print edition of the Decatur Tribune.
